What For

My brain has been spinning for months, thinking anxiously about the election- and the future. I’ve wanted to write something but couldn’t figure out what. Since I like making lists (to tell myself I’m being productive but really as a way to avoid doing things), I figured I’d start there. This is what I came up with: some of the many, many things I’m voting for.

for my kids’ future
for economic recovery
for my preexisting condition
for funding medical discoveries
for preserving Social Security
for our teachers and our schools
for no more inequality
for playing by the rules
for our planet
for gun sense
for kindness and decency
for tolerance
for an end to voter suppression
for a color-blind justice system
for campaign finance reform
for being America again
for science
for honesty
for free speech
for democracy
for a level playing field
whether you’re poor or rich
and for a Senate not run
by a swamp creature named Mitch
